Aire Valley Restaurant and Guesthouse lies on a hill yet is sheltered from salt winds by the cliffs and dunes where the Great Ocean Walk runs. As such we are able to grow a vast array of foodstuffs including citrus fruits, berries, vegetables and herbs.
To be able to grow and then pick our kitchen produce daily gives our restaurant the freshest ingredients available along the Great Ocean Road. Seasonal changes along the coast also mean a wide variety of ingredients can be grown at different times of year.
It is common for diners to wander around the garden with a glass of wine in hand watching their dinner being picked.
The area around the Aire Valley Restaurant is famous for great potatoes. Our most famous potato farmer was Cliff Young! When our potato stocks run low, we have delicious local specimens to order in. Berries, especially blueberries and raspberries, are also locally grown in Lavers Hill and Beech Forest.
Broad beans, dwarf beans, baby beets, beetroot, cabbage, cauliflower, egg plant, several varieties of lettuce, leek, onions, peas, potatoes, parsley, chives, rocket, silverbeet, spinach, rhubarb, parsnip, sugarsnap peas, thyme, coriander, tomatoes, basil, rosemary, carrots, radish, strawberries, sweet corn, zuchinni, squash, turnip, pumpkin, rockmelon, capsicum, cucumber, peaches, plums, apples, grape fruit, lime, lemon, oranges, gooseberries, blackberries, raspberries, mulberries, pears, mint, spearmint, garlic, red currant and probably many more that are hiding in corners of the Restaurant Garden.
