The Restaurant Garden
Aire Valley Restaurant and Guesthouse lies on a hill yet is sheltered from salt winds by the cliffs and dunes where the Great Ocean Walk runs. As such we are able to grow a vast array of foodstuffs including citrus fruits, berries, vegetables and herbs. To be able to grow and then pick our kitchen produce daily gives our restaurant the freshest ingredients available along the Great Ocean Road. Seasonal changes along the coast also mean a wide variety of ingredients can be grown at different times of year.
Our wonderful gardener, Wendy Hart, ensures the quality of the produce at all times in the restaurant garden.
Local Produce of the Otways
The area around the Aire Valley Restaurant is famous for great potatoes. Our most famous potato farmer was Cliff Young! When our potato stocks run low we have delicious local specimens to order in. Berries, especially blueberries and raspberries, are also locally grown in Lavers Hill and Beech Forest.
Sonia Borg, who wrote the screen play for the famous Australian film 'Storm Boy' grows our raspberries.
